Stories are a form of knowledge intermediate between the subjective and objective. Stories contain knowledge which is the fossilized fruit of our evolution: heuristics, patterns of behaviour, morals, which have survived the journey through the oral tradition because of their usefulness. Sometimes this knowledge cannot be easily disembodied from the story into a moral, it's ephemeral and difficult to pin down. And yet we all know a good story and enjoy the retelling.
You will need:
1. At every opportunity, tell these stories
Pass them on, get the kids excited.
2. Encourage the children to tell their own stories
Creativity is key.
