How to Calm a Troubled Heart Amidst the Storm

I have walked among you and seen how heavy the burdens of this world can be. Many are anxious, asking, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ Your hearts are like boats tossed on a stormy sea. But I tell you, do not worry about your life. Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They do not labor or spin. This method is a way to lay down your heavy yoke of fear and take up a lighter one, finding a quiet trust that will anchor your soul when the winds blow.
You will need:
1.  Seek Solitude
As I often go to the mountains to pray to my Father, you must find your own quiet place. It need not be grand. A silent room or a place beneath a tree will suffice. Step away from the noise of others so you may hear the gentle whisper of peace.
2.  Present Your Burdens
Do not hide your troubles. Acknowledge them one by one in the silence of your heart. Like a child showing a wound to his father, present your fears, your anxieties, and your sorrows. They cannot be healed if they remain in darkness. Bring them into the light.
3.  Breathe with Purpose
Close your eyes. Draw in a breath slowly and deeply, for breath is the spirit of life given to you. As you release it, let go of the tightness in your body. With every breath out, imagine you are emptying a vessel filled with murky water, making room for a clean spring.
4.  Behold a Simple Truth
Open your eyes and look at the simple object you have chosen. See how it rests in its being, without striving. The flower does not worry about the storm, nor the stone about being moved. It simply is. Let its quiet trust teach your heart that you too are cared for.
5.  Release Your Cares into Loving Hands
As you continue to breathe, consciously release your worries. Imagine placing them into the hands of a loving Father who knows what you need before you ask. Let go of your tight grip on tomorrow. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Trust that you will be provided for.
6.  Rest in the Stillness
Once your burdens feel lighter, simply be still. Do not strive for great visions or voices. The Kingdom of God is within you, like a hidden treasure or a quiet seed. Rest in the knowledge that you are seen, known, and loved. This is the peace that the world cannot give.
7.  Return with a Lightened Spirit
When you feel ready, stand up and return to your day. The world's chaos may remain, but you now carry a lamp of peace within your heart. Do not let the anxieties of the hour extinguish it. Return to this practice as often as a thirsty person returns to a well.
